"For Dieter: the past and the future". These words were inscribed by Benjamin Britten in the score of "Songs and Proverbs of William Blake"; the two men, Britten and Fischer-Dieskau, recorded the song cycle and we can hear "Proverb II & The Chimney-Sweeper".
"I like these songs more than all the rest, and you will come to like them as well". Schubert was right, we love his Winterreise. We can hear Martti Talvela and Ralf Gothóni performing song No. 7, Auf dem Flusse.
Song of the week: The singer (P. Warlock) - C. Maltman, J. Drake
"The Singer" is a song written by Peter Warlock in 1922, based upon a poem by Edward Shanks. Perhaps not his best work but a delightful song nevertheless, performed by Christopher Maltman and Julius Drake.
